California: "Capital of the world" capital of the world

I'm working on a book about all of the places in California that are nicknamed (generally self promoted by the chamber of commerce, of course, but still...) "the <something> capital of the world"

I've identified about 50

There are a handful of towns which claim more than one, like Lodi (Zinfandel, Tokay Grape) and Fallbrook (Avocado, Raisin [but we will give the raisins to Selma])

and a few that claim the same thing:

Raisin: Selma & Fallbrook

Almond: Yuba City, Ripon, Sacramento

The majority are specific ag related things which makes sense since California has multiple fertile growing areas and long seasons, and produces a ginormous amount of the country's produce.

But there are many other things celebrated.  E.g.

  • Hollywood, "Entertainment"
  • Auburn, "Endurance"
  • Monterey, "Language"
  • Willow Creek, "Bigfoot"
  • Pearsonville, "Hubcap"

With this many, I'm thinking about a coffee table book with 3 pages per item
One mostly pictures,
one with a table of vital stats (e.g. stuff Chamber of commerce puts out) and maybe a little map to locate
one with text describing a visit

maybe 4 pages works?

Perhaps design to be article sized e.g. for an airplane magazine and sell them as a series!!

could get the opportunity to go visit the state more, expense the costs, have some fun and make something my mother would have enjoyed.
