William Gibson has the jackpot as a core bit of his 2014 novel, “The Peripheral”

Claims it just sort of “was out there”

I bet he once read Heinlein , The year of the Jackpot

We might be in it.  Gibson recently tweeted that the jackpot is ~3 centuries long and we are maybe 100 years in but just starting to notice.

I suppose it’s an interesting thought experiment to wonder which will win the race: the jackpot or 

the Singularity
