I wrote an Eliza like program in the 70s, and an ALICE based bot maybe 20 years ago.  I had a vague goal of creating a chat bot that was a bit of a friend and provided responses that sounded positive and accepting.

Stopped working on it as the AIML work was getting tedious but still worth thinking about.
